The ABA Commission on Disability Rights is seeking talented law and undergraduate interns to work on various Commission initiatives, activities, and programs aimed at advancing disability civil rights and fostering the inclusion of law students and lawyers with disabilities in the legal profession. Tasks include researching disability law issues; compiling and analyzing statistics relating to the employment of lawyers with disabilities; identifying and assembling a list of resources for law students and lawyers with disabilities; growing the list of signatories to the Commission’s disability diversity pledge; representing the Commission at meetings and other events; and much more. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about and network with staff from other ABA groups. This internship is unpaid. However, students may qualify for academic credit.

QUALIFICATIONS
Law students and undergraduate interns must show a demonstrated commitment to disability civil rights. Interns must also demonstrate respect and compassion for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Description
Convo Communications is a deaf-owned and FCC-certified company that provides 24/7 Video Relay Services (VRS). Convo is looking for an experienced, talented, and driven individual to join the Convo team as Convo’s Legal Compliance and Policy Manager. This position reports to the General Counsel (GC).

Work with the GC on the implementation of compliance policies and procedures to ensure Convo has a coherent, consistent and robust approach. Work with Convo Departments to refine a coherent policy and procedure framework, which is easily accessible to all employees.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Support the GC to work with managers, employees, and to ensure Convo has a holistic policy framework which covers all key compliance risk areas
• Lead the redocumentation of Convo’s Compliance policy by ensuring all documents accurately reflect its purpose and process
• Ensure all documents are disseminated to managers and employees in a timely and accurate fashion
• Drive delivery of the Compliance policy by ensuring timely reviews of documents and obtaining required approvals
• Ensure all policies have clear plans for engagement, implementation, training, communications and assurance/monitoring prior to issuance
• Drive the policy localization strategy for the department, ensuring Convo policies are correctly adopted throughout all departments
• Support the GC in maintaining a compliance database of policies and procedures
• Monitors and analyzes various policy trends and activities relevant to Convo. Follows up by rendering policy developments into strategic guidance and actions which strengthens or adds to Convo’s service offerings
• Assist in RFP/legal writing in addition to improving policy infrastructure.
• Perform other responsibilities as directed.

Skills and Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in the regulatory/legal field or equivalent experience
• Experience of managing policies & procedures in a workplace environment, including demonstrated ability to write policy & procedure documentation
• Demonstrated skills in plain English writing and fluency in ASL with strong analytical skills
• Good judgment enabling the provision of sound advice in difficult areas of law, regulation and practice and the proactive management of compliance and regulatory risk
• Ability to contribute in the development of new strategic frameworks while being an advocate for potential change
• An inquisitive approach to practices, procedures and specific transactions
• Good presentation skills, as well as strong planning and organizational skills.
• Sharp business acumen, including the ability to assess risk
• Strong integrity, ethics, independence and interpersonal skills at all levels

(Prudential) to provide a meaningful summer internship opportunity for a highly motivated, first-year law student with a disability. The Commission will select a law student with a disability to join the 2016 summer law intern program at Prudential’s New Jersey offices. The 1L summer internship will run 10 weeks—from June 6 to August 12, 2016. Interns will be paid a stipend of approximately $10,000, which shall accrue and be paid on a weekly basis.

Internship Description
The summer internship program will provide interns the opportunity to work with attorneys who support the broad reach of Prudential’s businesses. Other features of the program include:

• Paid attendance at the 1L LCLD Scholars Summit in Dallas on May 19-21
• Participation in training programs presented by Prudential attorneys highlighting different areas of the business and the legal department
• Pairing with an attorney who will serve as a manager during the program and provide guidance on projects and other substantive work
• Pairing with a mentor who will serve as an additional advisor on resume review, interviewing, skill development, and mock interview practice

The Civil Rights Division (CRD) in the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) ​is seeking legal interns to assist with its enforcement and outreach efforts  in Washington, D.C. during the Winter 2016 and Summer 2016 terms. OCR promotes and ensures that people have equal access to and opportunity to participate in certain health care and human services programs without facing unlawful discrimination. CRD carries out this mission by enforcing Federal laws and regulations that prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, age and, in certain circumstances, sex and religion, in programs and activities that receive financial assistance from HHS. CRD also enforces Federal laws that prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability in health care and social service programs of state and local governments.

Job Description
Interns will gain invaluable exposure to public health issues from the perspective of the Federal government. Specifically, the interns will assist CRD personnel with discrimination complaints, investigations, pre-grants, clearances, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, interns will develop an understanding of Title VI, Title IX, Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Act of 1975, and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act. 

Qualifications
Applicants should be second or third year law students, students in a Masters of Public Health program, or medical students who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to civil rights law. Applicants should have strong backgrounds in research, writing, and creative problem-solving. Veterans, minorities, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Salary
The positions are unpaid, but OCR will cooperate with applications for law school fellowship programs, credit programs, and any other sources of support for interns. CRD prefers full-time interns, but is willing to consider part-time interns on a case-by-case basis.

​The Natural Resources and Environment Division (NRED) of the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking unpaid law student interns for Summer 2016. NRED provides legal services to the Secretary of Agriculture, the Forest Service, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and other USDA agencies. The Division works on issues nationally, including litigation; a wide array of environmental and administrative statutes; land management planning; property; minerals; and special use permits.
 
NRED's internships provide hands-on training, in which law students work one-on-one with agency lawyers engaged in the full range of legal drafting and litigation activities. Flexible scheduling and a collaborative work environment make NRED a great place to gain practical work experience.

National Gallery of Art 
Summer Internships for People with Disabilities 2015

Since 1964, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC has offered professional museum training to candidates from all backgrounds through a variety of internship programs. Nine-week summer internships provide opportunities to work on projects directed by a Gallery curator or department head. Biweekly museum seminars introduce interns to the broad spectrum of museum work, and to Gallery staff, departments, programs, and functions. In 2015, the Gallery will provide two paid internship opportunities for people with disabilities.

Eligibility
Any college student (degree- and non-degree-seeking), graduate student, law student, or recent graduate (degree must have been received no earlier than 2014, ages 15-22) is invited to apply. You will not be required to disclose your specific disability; however, your application for this program will signify that you consider yourself a person with a disability. Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Terms
Summer interns are in residence at the Gallery from June 8 to August 7, 2015. Interns receive a stipend of approximately $4,500 that is subject to all applicable taxes. In addition, interns receive a monthly public transportation subsidy.

2015 AAPD Washington DC Summer Internship Program For Students with Disabilities

If you will be living in the Washington, DC area during the 2015 summer and you’re a college student, graduate student, law student, or recent graduate (within one year), the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD)’s Summer Internship Program provides the opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience to help advance your career goals. Interns will receive a stipend, mentor matching, and additional resources during the summer. Candidates interested in careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and veterans with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.

Each summer, AAPD places students and recent graduates with all types of disabilities in paid 10-week summer internships in Congressional offices, federal agencies, nonprofit and for-profit organizations. 

At the beginning of the summer, interns participate in a 1-week orientation session to learn about AAPD as well as the disability rights movement, meet the other interns, and participate in a variety of engaging workshops and events. Interns are matched with a mentor who is a professional or advocate within the disability community. As part of the AAPD network, interns also receive opportunities to attend events on Capitol Hill, conferences, community events, happy hours, and more.
